About the College
The library was opened in 1927 together with the establishment of the college’s first permanent building. Over the years it has moved , expanded and grown and today spans four floors. The collection includes over 300,000 books, more than 600 print periodicals, and about 800 CDs, DVDs and videos. In addition the library provides access to electronic databases with thousands of full text articles and electronic books.
The library serves the college’s students, faculty and staff.
The entrance hall consists of the circulation desk, the reserve section, the ‘Kef HaKria’ fiction area and a ‘New Books’ stand. Also located here is a large public computer space with a printer and the Children’s Literature Center.
The middle floor holds the reference room with encyclopedias, dictionaries and periodicals – single issues and bound volumes.
The upper floor houses the main non- fiction collection of books and 2 rooms for group study.
Ask- a -librarian stations and photocopying machines are available on each floor. Scanners are also available.

The Collection
The library’s collection in Hebrew, Arabic and English covers all the subjects taught at the college. Some special collections worthy of mention are the didactic material comprising school text books and teachers’ guides, curricula, pedagogical research and strategies, an extensive collection of books in the ‘therapies’ and rare art books.
The Children’s Literature Center includes a rich and exceptional collection of children’s books, magazines and journals together with a special section devoted to children’s reference books.
Students studying in the Arab tracks can enjoy a large and varied collection of texts and research in Arabic together with didactic material, children’s literature, fiction and periodicals.
Policies
The library is open to David Yellin students, faculty and staff. Unaffiliated persons may use the library’s facilities but will be required to produce identification.
Appropriate conduct and respect for the library and its contents is requested .
Cell phones should be switched off.
No food or drink may be brought into the library.
Quiet should be maintained throughout the library.
Group study is allowed in the library apart from the reference room, which is reserved for silent study .
Library computers are to be used for study purposes only.
The photocopiers in the library are operated by student card which may be recharged from a dispenser in the hallway leading to the library or in the computer department.
Circulation
Only faculty, students and staff of the college may borrow materials from the library.
Each patron must have a student card to check out library materials.
Books may not be transferred from patron to patron without the permission of the circulation department.
Patrons may borrow up to 15 books from the library, of which maximum 6 from the children’s literature department.
Every book has a defined loan period determined by the number of copies and the demand.
Patrons who return books late or lose them will be fined.
Reference books (encyclopedias and dictionaries), journals and reserved books are not for loan.
Inter Library Loan
Books and journal articles that the library do not possess may be ordered for a nominal fee from other libraries in Israel. Further information can be found on the ILL page of the Hebrew site
Library Tutorial
An online tutorial of the library’s resources has been specially created by the library staff to assist students orientation and to aid their research.
Electronic resources
Databases
The use of the databases is subject to license agreements and restrictions and is therefore limited to the David Yellin college community. Here are some of the databases the library subscribes to:
Proquest Central : General database with full text articles
Ebsco Academic Search Premier: Academic database with full text articles
IHP: General bibliographic database of Hebrew journal articles
Henrietta Szold Databases: “Publications in Education and the SocialSciences”, Bibliographic database of Israeli journal articles, book chapters, dissertations and reports in the social sciences. “Research Tools” and “Rehabilitation Services in Israel".
The Bar Ilan Responsa Project is the largest Jewish database. It incorporates the full text of the Bible and Talmud, commentaries and responsa and many other Jewish literary works.
Kotar – A growing digital collection of Hebrew non-fiction books with emphasis on the humanities and social sciences.
Catalogs
ULI - The Israel Union Catalog contains bibliographic records of items held by participating libraries that include university, college, government and research libraries.
ULS - The Israel Union List of Serials includes many thousands of serial titles held by academic, special and public libraries and collections.
Children’s Literature
The Center for Children and Youth Literature is committed to developing and promoting awareness of this type of literature within and without the college for teachers, students, parents and researchers.
The Center comprises a large and interesting collection of children and youth literature in Hebrew and Arabic.
The Hebrew collection covers an historical cross section of children and youth books from the 1930s until today.
The children’s literature collection can be searched through the online catalog by author, title, illustrator and topic. In addition folders of authors and poets with articles, interviews and reviews can be found behind the librarian’s desk.
The Center publishes bibliographic lists in preparation for each holiday and special events.

Special Collections
The Pedagogical archive of Herzlia Raz
Mrs Herzlia Raz has been a creator , educator and teacher for over 60 years and this archive is her personal endeavor . She has taught many generations of children and student teachers in education colleges throughout the country.
Mrs Raz ,herself a writer, has published children and adult books , plays and poetry and dozens of articles on the subject of teaching. Her personal archive is a treasure for teachers ,students and researchers. It is made up of subject folders wherein can be found ; literary texts, scholarly articles, research, letters, pictures and photographs . Examples of material that have been collected are lullabies, puppet shows, religious holidays, humor, fables, ballads and lots more. Also found in the archive are author folders, particularly those who wrote for children .
This is an ongoing project and material is constantly being edited and added .
The collection can be searched by topic through the online catalog.
The locked archive is located at the entrance hall of the library.
The Charlotte Bergman collection
The college was awarded part of the impressive and unique ‘Louis and Charlotte Bergman art collection’. It has been displayed in the library since 1998 and consists of the following items:
